I see these all the time and am intrigued by their interesting shapes and uselessness. With all our technology and a million instant songs on our miniature iPods...these old record players are dinosaurs.
But, there is something fantastic about the scratchy, authentic sounds of music coming from an old record player.
No wonder musicians are turning back to the vinyl.
Remember our cousin who got married this summer? Amy and I bought this for her wedding gift:
We sketched our plans. Paint (our cousin loves turquoise and orange), replace the panels, check the stereo, record player and speakers.
This would make a great sideboard or entry table. And it would be so so so cool if the turntable still worked. Can you imagine some mellow, crackly version of Louie Armstrong setting the mood for the evening. I like!
But, it didn't. According to our locally employed Peppertowne Engineer, there had once been a small fire inside the console burning and destroying the record player. A small fire! WOW! But the speakers and radio stereo survived the flames. Click here to see what happened to them.
After a little bit of
The finished product!
So this table holds a little sentimental value now.
OMG This is crazy- I did the EXACT SAME THING! I found a record player at Goodwill for $5. I'll have to take a picture and show you. This looks absolutely amazing :)
ReplyDeleteReally great job! I love the color! I have seen consoles similar to that many times and have to admit, I have thought about doing the same type of thing because they have such neat lines sometimes. :)
ReplyDeleteRachel! I'd love to see your version of the record player remodel... send me a pic!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I love a good crackly record playing. This is very cool!

ReplyDeleteThat is so cool! And I love the color, too.
ReplyDeleteWow! You did a great job on this! Love the color. My grandparents had a player console. I think it had an 8-track player in it too. It was sooo awesome! I wonder what happened to it. :-(
