...the mallets, live flamingos!

It wouldn't be an Alice in Wonderland party without flamingos! We made these to point the guests in the right direction.

DIY
1. Find some tacky plastic lawn flamingos and give them a coat of primer, we used Zinsser 123 by RustOleum in a spray can, let dry overnight.
2. Roughly brush on the first layer of paint, we used some leftover pink from another project.
3. Allow to dry for at least one hour. Mix some white or cream paint with water to make a wash, about 30% paint to 70% water. Either use a rag or brush and wipe on. Let dry at least 30 minutes.
4. Make another wash in a contrasting color, we used leftover teal paint, use a rag and rub on in select areas until the right look is achieved. We did this several times with different shades of teal.
5. For the final touch, use a toothbrush or your paintbrush and lightly splatter paint your flamingos, we used a rust colored paint.

Tissue Paper Pom Poms

For these pom poms I followed the instructions from Martha Stewart, except I added several different colors in each pom pom. I also cut the ends in different ways, I cut a few of them on a diagonal, some rounded, and others pointed. I used a tissue paper multicolor pack from Hobby Lobby that I got on sale for 6 bucks!

I love how pretty they look hanging in bunches or strung one by one throughout the branches.

Painting the Roses Red 2

Remember when I posted this...Painting the Roses Red? I was finally able to use these adorable lights at our wedding shower for Haley, aren't they just pretty? The only thing I changed from the last tutorial was to hot glue the flower petals to the light bulbs, otherwise they will fall off when you hang them.

These are really fast to make. Jen, her daughter, and I whipped them up within an hour or so, and they made all the difference in the world...especially at night!
