Product Review

Zinsser B-I-N Primer: Shellac Based
We are NOT getting paid in any way for this product review, this is simply my own experience using the product.
For an upcoming project, I'm redoing a piece of furniture made out of that really crappy laminate. (The kind you generally find at Walmart) After reading several articles on primer I decided that the shellac (alcohol) based was the one for me.

This primer is awesome...seriously, it is a little more expensive about $10/quart. This stuff really sticks to the plastic surface of laminate and my favorite thing about it, it sets in just 45 minutes. Meaning you can paint over the top of it in less than an hour! For an impatient person like myself this is amazing, when I start a project I just want to hurry up and get it done.
The only downfall to this primer are the fumes, since it is alcohol based you need to use it in a well ventilated area and possibly even wear a respirator. You cannot use this near any open flames such as a pilot light of a water heater because it is flammable.

Overall I really like this product and because of this I will no longer pass up laminated furniture at the thrift store.
